S’adonnant au Graffiti depuis le début des années 90, Aple76 utilise la photographie pour archiver avec les moyens du bord, son travail éphémère et les traces d’une culture underground qui l’entoure (une partie de ces archives visible ici : http://openfiles76.tumblr.com). En mars 2005, après un reportage de 10 jours sur le graffiti des rues de Berlin, il prend conscience de la bienfaisance de la photographie et de son intérêt, pour témoigner de la créativité et de l’unité de la culture Hip Hop, et décide de pousser plus loin ce qui n’était alors qu’une activité d’archivage.
Alors que l’on peut entendre que l’évolution de cette culture a conduit à la désunification de ses disciplines et à son déclin cette fin de siècle dernier, aujourd’hui, à travers le regard d’Aple76, on constate que des liens persistent entre ces mêmes disciplines et apparaissent comme les manifestations d’un nouvel age d’or. Le projet "United We Chill" est le témoignage photographique de l’énergie de cette culture dynamique et plurielle, qui façonne les fantasmes les plus variés. Plongé au cœur de ce mouvement, ce projet cherche à restituer de manière honnête, les caractéristiques, les codes, et les personnalités de ceux qui la façonnent.

Since the early nineties, Aple76 has lived the graffiti lifestyle. During this time, he has used photography to archive ephemeral works and the traces of the Hip Hop culture surrounding him (a part of those archives are here : http://openfiles76.tumblr.com). In 2005, after shooting a documentary in Berlin, he first realized the power of photography as a witness to the creativity and unity of this culture. Today, the analog photography of Aple76 reveals a deep connection between all aspects of Hip Hop.
"United We Chill" is a photographic record of this dynamic and diverse culture. Nostalgia for its Bronx-based heritage has become the impetus for a new, global urban community. This project seeks to visualize a simple reality and an intimacy with that scene. Immersed in the heart of this movement, it offers an honest reflection on how members of the Hip Hop community define themselves as individuals, activists and characters.
